Joel Osteen Found "Law of Attraction" In The Bible!

OK, I cannot hold my joy back so I'm posting. Firstly, weird or not, I've been a HUGE Joel Osteen fan for years. Yes, before I cared for religion, God or any spiritual matter. I don't know what it is about this man, but he speaks to me.

I admire the way he speaks. I admire his message. I admire his insight of the human psyche. I admire his vision. I admire his goals. I admire him.

Now that I've built a shrine for him here :P let's get to the point. Below there is a video (10 minutes), you MUST watch it (after you read below).

For at least the last 10 years, I have been an avid believer in the "Law of Attraction." What is it? Well Wikipedia says the following:
"...a metaphysical belief that "like attracts like", that positive and negative thinking bring about positive and negative physical results, respectively."
Essentially - thinking good puts out good energy to Universe, Universe gives you good and vice versa. In my life, I have honestly seen the law of attraction do wonders. I remain a firm believer.

However, I always felt RELIGION or GOD was "ANTI-law of attraction" since you are to turn all things over to God. Well, today I know I was wrong thanks to Joel Osteen.

In 10 minutes he explains how even God and his word through the Bible practices law of attraction. He quotes a verse here:
"According to your faith be it done unto you." Matthew 9:29
Interesting. In "traditional" law of attraction they use a word "energy" and "Universe." In GOD "speak" we use the words "faith" and "god" interchangeably! This is a PROFOUND concept for me, I could literally do a back flip right now.

Joel says that we should expect good things from God. Think good thoughts and look for the good. We shouldn't be afraid of it. We shouldn't think that we don't deserve it. We should know that God will do good for us and it's OK to "expect" that.

Now, Joel gets hammered in the comments by (excuse me for my opinion) IDIOTS. They are criticizing him for preaching that one should have "expectations from God." This is ridiculous! It is also proof that they did not watch the entire 10 minutes. At exactly 6:40, Joel himself clarifies that he does not mean you "expect from God." No one is asking you to be supernatural yourself.

Those of you writing negative comments. Stop your whining and go watch it again, the man even QUOTES the Bible!

Yet another quote is to reference those who are AFRAID of good things. As soon as something good happens they begin to think "Oh wow, I wonder how long this will last, I wonder when it will end." This is not good faith, it's a failure in faith, for God himself said:
"His favor is for a lifetime." PSALM 30:5

  1. I thought this was really cool! I believe the same thing, but had only ever heard of the law of attraction in the bible before now. Thanks for laying it out and structuring these somewhat abstract concepts.

  2. A response to “Laws of Attraction”

    I used to believe in the “Laws of Attraction” a few years ago. I watched the "Secret" and I also read some literature about it. My buddy and I would sit back and talk about the “Law of attraction”, prosperity, religion and we would get excited just thinking about the possibility of getting rich; all while passing a joint back and forth. I wasted a portion of my life on that lie, as well as many portions of my life to many other lies.

    When I became a Christian, at age 25, I gave up that old life. I started reading the Bible and I studied God's Word diligently. I was curious to see if this "Law of Attraction" as well as the very similar teachings of Joel Olsteen's "Name it and Claim it" theology was in the Bible. Despite what others say, neither teachings are in the Bible.

    It is all a false belief system (a false religion) manufactured so that it appeals to the carnal lusts of men. "Law's of Attraction" teachers suck up those who are greedy as well as those in poverty, who are seeking a way to get out, and they take what money that they have and spit them back out. "Name it and claim it" does the same, but it leaves the believers downtrodden, questioning Christianity and God's existence as well .

    Oftentimes, "Name it and claim it" or "Prosperity Preaching" beguiles weaker Christians who are still obedient to the flesh and it causes them to abandon God’s Truths and walk the broad road with the nonbelievers.

    The teachings of prosperity, in which Joel Olsteen and other "preachers" promote, is in fact, false doctrine. These wolves present themselves as “God’s messengers” and they give "proof texts" that will help them sell their false teachings to the masses.

    As they do this, they amass a great amount of wealth for themselves from the believers, which in turn they use to prove that their teachings are true! "Look! It worked for me! Look at how rich I am now!" (this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy).

    Now I don’t know if they are doing this with good intentions, or doing this with evil intentions. All that I know is that what they are teaching is wrong.

    You see, in order to prove that their teachings are biblical; they must take God’s Words out of context and input their own meanings into Bible verses. They may or may not know that they are doing this.

    However, if they do in fact read the Bible regularly and have the Holy Spirit (as they claim to have received), I would suspect that they have, in times past, been made aware to their false teachings and false belief systems. If that is true, then they will be held accountable before God for not adhering to God’s corrections and discipline.

    “Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.”

    2. so true. too many fools are quoting joel osteen, not enough wise people quoting the bible. Joel osteen is leading many to hell, and i believe joel osteen himself is a punishment and a judgement from God.

    3. I was in the New Age for 23 years, now a born again Christian. Law of Attraction is one of the NA lies and doesn't work. There is not enough talk about Jesus. Jesus is my Savior, not me and my positive thinking. The devil also quoted scripture when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness.

    4. Former New Ager here too. OP is exactly correct. I saw Osteen's church recently, and I immediately suspected that not only was it too big, but that it couldn't and wouldn't have gotten that big without help from the devil himself. So I immediately googled "Joel Osteen Occult" which is the first thing I do when I want to prove to someone that a celebrity does satanic things. Boom. It became immediately apparent that people accuse Joel Osteen of preaching the Law of Attraction. Well I'm here to research Osteen, so I googled "Osteen Law of Attraction" and yes he does preach LOA. There is so little focus on Jesus and so much focus on manifestation that even a deaf & blind man could see it. I only needed like 5 minutes to easily make this determination because it's all he does. To any New Agers or even Christians reading this, give it time. The New Age tradition will reveal how awful it is to you one day. It's a massive letdown, unless you find the devil and sell him your soul. There are many ways of summoning him too, and the same peoppe who know how to are the same types of people who practice LOA. But, until that time, the devil will only fee you crumbs, which is exactly what Osteen is doing for his followers. The Law of Attraction hasn't made anyone rich any other way. Just ask the old Spirit Science guy, Steven Bancarz I think is his name. He has a YouTube channel under that name. And he invented "Spirit Science"

    I’m sure that, many times, misinterpretation of scripture is done by a person subconsciously, simply because they have the intuitive intentions of proving themselves right and when they see a verse in the Bible that appears to support their preconceived notions, they interpret it to mean what they believe (this is called Eisegesis). Eisegesis is “the act imposing meaning onto a text and is often described in terms of reading "into" the text rather than "out of" it”. http://www.theopedia.com/Eisegesis

    We should use proper “hermeneutics” (methodological principles of interpretation). We must ensure that we are correctly interpreting scripture (allowing the scripture to interpret itself: Exegesis) Exegesis is “a systematic process by which a person arrives at a reasonable and coherent sense of the meaning and message of a biblical passage. Ideally, an understanding of the original texts (Greek and Hebrew) is required. In the process of exegesis, a passage must be viewed in its historical and grammatical context with its time/purpose of writing taken into account.” http://www.theopedia.com/Exegesis

    The Bible says: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
    (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

    So we should always let scripture verify itself, so that our doctrine and teachings are true. We are to use ALL scripture to verify doctrine, not just some. All teachings must fall within the entire paradigm that God revealed in His Word, it must not contradict other scriptures.

    The core issue is that man is covetous in his heart. Man covets material possessions and lusts in his heart for money. This has been so throughout history. One aspect of man's depravity is that he is never satisfied with what he has.

    “He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.”
    (Ecclesiastes 5:10)

    That is why there are so many divorces, also why people scam other people, steal from others, lie to others, or make up false teachings to get money (Prosperity Preaching). These people have a depraved heart that drives them to do such things. They must repent and turn to God with their whole heart or their heart will send them to hell.

    "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
    (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

    When we receive Jesus Christ for our salvation, the old man dies and we receive a new heart to live after righteousness and we ought to no longer serve sin (Romans 6):

    "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26)

    When we get saved, we are regenerated with a new heart and new desires. We seek the Will of God, not our own. We also receive the Holy Spirit which guides us and helps to lead us towards righteous decisions and actions by reminding us of what God has said unto us (John 14:26).

    Christians ought NOT to act contrary to God’s Word (wherein which covetousness, greed and love of money is condemned: Col 3:5, Luke 12:15); for they have a new heart and the Holy Spirit to guide them, if they are in fact truly Christians.

    God wants our new hearts to be devoted to Him. He does not want our new hearts to be blemished and destroyed by material things. We must focus our new hearts on God (the true God, not some genie) and keep our faith in the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and never lose focus on what we have to look forward to in the end, eternity in Heaven. This includes doing God’s Will.

    Greed has taken many souls to hell. But the devil is smart, he offers other ways for us to express greed, ways that we’re told are in the Bible. We have teachings like “Name it and claim it” where people are taught that they can tell God to give them money and then sit back and wait for God to fulfill His “duties of servitude". This is a horrendous act apostasy! You have people telling God that they know that He will give them a new job that pays twice what they are making and they expect God to fulfill this demand.

    The devil tells people that this is a demonstrating “faith” in God. But in reality, this is demonstrating both a lacking knowledge of scripture and that their hearts are still carnal, covetous and wholly devoted to the flesh.

    These people have no shame of their covetousness. They are tricked into audaciously displaying the very characteristics in which God despises, and not only that, expecting God to reward them for it! The devil has led false prophets to teach that God tolerates greed, so long as we seek it through Him in "faith". This is not true! You will not find the bible promoting such carnal, lusts of the world.

    "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."
    (1 John 2:15-17)

    If self-proclaimed Christians are acting contrary to God’s Word by being caught up in obtaining more material possessions and being covetous of worldly goods, then they are committing sin (Romans 6:12-13, 1 Peter 2:11, Romans 7:23, Galatians 5:17).

    "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

    "Conversation" is a translation of the Greek word "tropos" which means your character, actions or behavior. We must not behave in a covetous manner. If we suspect that we are acting on covetousness, we must snuff it out immediately.

    That verse tells us that we must also be content with the things that we already have! That means income, home, jobs, even being single. I know that sounds tough to do, but trust me, I have done it. I lived in a little 12x24 shack for 4 years (3 of those years I was a Christian), I was also a single Christians for 2 years, I was also $30,000 in debt (paying $700 a month towards the creditors.); but God pulled me out of all that, but ONLY because I became CONTENT "with such things as I had". I know from experience that being content is hard to do when we are in tough circumstances, but we must find the good in everything and give God the proper thanks and glory for those things in which we have, specifically salvation through Christ. That's the most precious gift of all!!

    We must appreciate what God has already given us and we must learn to live within the circumstances that we are in by finding the good in them. We must also pray for God’s will to be done, not our own will to be done.

    “… Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
    (Matthew 6:10)

    God is telling us not to live a covetous life, a life in which we desire more money and more things. We must be content with what we have and serve God with our whole heart. We must also seek God’s Will in all things. If He desires to give you and I more in this life, then so be it, to God be the glory! If God sees fit that you and I never become rich, then so be it, to God be the glory! Be content and never allow your will to come before God’s will, even in your prayers. Remember, God always knows what’s best for us:

    Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. (James 4:3-4)

    There's a reason why we don't get certain things from God when we ask, because He knows our hearts better than ourselves, and He knows that certain things will lead us to far worse things.

    (Ecclesiastes 5:10)

    That is why we need to be content in what we already have. God doesn't want us coveting wealth and chasing after our own carnal ambitions. He wants us to seek His will and to be satisfied with what He has already provided for us. If we focus our hearts and ambitions on obtaining wealth and materialistic things, our hearts will be on the earthly things and we will find ourselves far apart from God and we will be awaiting condemnation for that.

    Remember: A good parent would be wise to NOT give his spoiled child anymore gifts until that child appreciates what he already has and obeys his parents’ requests.

Jesus commanded us to: "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:19-21)
